[Grammar] ~는/은/ㄴ데도

~는/은/ㄴ데도 (neun/eun/-eun de-do) – but even then

~는/은/ㄴ데도 is some sort of an extension of 은/ㄴ데, the main difference is the extra 도 that is added behind. If you noticed, there is still a “but” in the definition.

You would add ~는/은/ㄴ데도 only in the middle of a sentence. You would almost never add ~는/은/ㄴ데도 at the end because this is usually used as a connector for two clauses.

Example: 그 사람은 공부하지 않은데도 시험을 잘 봤으니 진짜 대단해.
That person did not study but even then, he/she still managed to do very well, it’s really amazing.

~는/은/ㄴ데도 can also be translated to “even though” or “although” if you’d like.

Using the same example: 그 사람은 공부하지 않은데도 시험을 잘 봤으니 진짜 대단해.
Even though that person did not study, he/she still managed to do very well, it’s really amazing.
