[Grammar] ~만하다

~만하다 (~ma-na-da) – as big/small/tall/short as…

You would use this when you want to compare two subjects in terms of size or height.

~만하다 is not to be confused with ~을/ㄹ 만하다 or ~(기)만 하다. They have very different meanings.

Examples:

내 가장 친한 친구가 키는 나만해.
My best and closest friend’s height is the same as mine.
My best and closest friend is as tall as I am.

우리 집에 강아지가 아이만해.
Our house’s puppy is the same size of a baby.
Our house’s puppy is only as small/big as a baby.

티아라 지연이 얼굴은 내 주먹만하지만 진짜 예쁘네.
T-ara Jiyeon’s face is the same size as my fist but she’s really beautiful huh.
T-ara Jiyeon’s face is only as small/big as my fist but she’s really beautiful huh.
